City Rx: Light Play

As the days gets shorter and the light gets more rare, it's time to bring on some created light and boost your circadian rhythms! Light Play, the next Design Nerd Jam topic, will be an evening of playing with light generation, light design, and videography. Some cool city characters are making wild videos with light that have inspired this jam - check out the light painting by Freezelight at http://vimeo.com/groups/4056/videos/8669028, or FlyFire by MIT people http://senseable.mit.edu/flyfire/.

The products of the evening will be refined to replay in the urban environment in select locations in Vancouver.

This jam is an opportunity to play with photographic light-painting techniques.  We will need you to bring some stuff:

• Digital SLR camera (or digital camera capable of timed exposures)
• Cable/computer
• Tripod
• A variety of things that emit light (bike lights, candles, burning poi, glow-sticks cell-phones, light-sabres)

This agenda is weather dependent. It will likely rain.

7:00 - 7:20: Introduction & presentations: Maia, Martin
7:20 - 7:30: Assignment and constraints
7:30 - 8:45: Indoor experiments
9:00-10:00: Outdoor experiments
10:00 -1100: Comp & post. Slide show of still images.
11:00-11:30: Screening
